Lift trucks are essential pieces of equipment utilized widely in business, particularly within distribution centers, warehouses, storage handling and industrial plants. A forklift truck is made of hundreds of parts, like the cab, the carriage, the power source, the wheels and the engine. Forklifts usually have different types of attachments as well. The following are some of the most important forklift parts.
Engine of the Lift Truck - At the back of the machine, the forklift has its power source. The various kinds of engine on the lift truck would require varying power sources. Like for example, a lift truck with an IC engine could have any of the following as its source of power: diesel, gasoline, LP gas or CNG gas. Electric motor lift trucks receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.
Truck Frame - The truck frame is the base of the lift truck and the most essential of all the lift truck components. This forms the core of the equipment. All other forklift components are connected to the base, including the axles, mast, wheels counterweight and overhead guard. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks may also be part of the frame assembly.
Counterweight Lift Truck Components - While carrying heavy loads, the counterweight allows the machine to be balanced. This specific part is cast iron and comes connected to the rear of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the truck frame to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being carried or lifted on the front. In an electric lift truck, the heavy lead-acid battery gives balance and may work as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also referred to as the operator compartment. Forklifts will sometimes have closed cabs while others would be open to the air. There are numerous parts situated in the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such essential components as the pedals, seats, levers, switches, operator controls and steering wheel. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
