Forklift Parts in More Detail
A lift truck is made of thousands of parts. The key components that make up a lift truck are the truck frame, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Also, a forklift consists of a variety of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are all essential as they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The following paragraphs describe some of the forklift components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is actually the forklifts metal roof, that sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator whilst they are utilizing the machinery. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would hurt the driver or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move up and downwards. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast can be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and different other kinds of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments could be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. Moreover, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These various attachments are handy for moving different types of loads.
